Books I Do Recommend! (To read for fun)

1

These are books that I have become eternally attached with and i want to share them with you. Simply because books have always been my friends and i want to share the knowledge and escape they have provided me.

1)    In the number one spot is a book that jumped to this place right after i have finished reading it and it is a must read for any heavy reader and for the light reader also! And the book is:

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower”  by Stephen  Chbosky.

2) The Anita Blake Series  by Laurell K. Hamilton

Vampires, Lycanthropes  (were-animals of various kinds), voodoo, zombies murder and erotica. This series never gets boring to me and I recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy and horror with erotica.

3) The Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Erotica, romance, comedy and mythology. This series packs serious romance but with warriors that know how to battle yet how to battle in bed.

4) The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins

Now despite its controversies with the film “Battle Royale (2001)”, The books Collins wrote happen to be taken to a more dystopian and sci-fi  level. I truly went through so many emotions through this series that it is hard not to recommend.

5) Zombies vs. Unicorns  (Holly black and Justine Larbalestier)

A compilation of stories of zombies, and unicorns.

no kidding this is the actual book cover.

no kidding this is the actual book cover.

6) The Night World  series by L.J. Smith

7) By the Time You Read This I’ll Be Dead by Julie Anne Peters

https://i0.wp.com/1.bp.blogspot.com/-CZ1S4-0o0To/ThIX3ERHXiI/AAAAAAAABwQ/K0gpmD_kzVc/s1600/BytheTimeCover.jpg

I’ll leave this at seven because I’m just that random (this is an excuse for not remembering other titles).  I do hope you’ll some day pick up these books and enjoy reading them as much as I did.

You Press the Button and Photoshop Does the Rest

1

The title is the slogan for Kodak (founded in 1889). When the Brownie camera was available to everybody in the 1900’s. Yeah, this one:

With its simple controls and initial price of $1

it revolutionized the photography industry and put professional  photographers to worry. At this time anybody could take photographs  and sadly to say that has not changed to this very day, and it will probably keep on doing so. I am a photography major student and I’m pretty sure I could rant about how people get a camera and think they could do photography relying on Photoshop for the pictures sake. Charging ridiculous prices for horrible images with bad composition.  When I got into my first photography class which is Black and White film, i started to learn about how everything affects everything and especially the developing process. By that time I have never yet had held a professional camera in my life and it was the best moment in my life! I guess it’s like that to many photography students. See because that’s your weapon, that camera will produce the worst shots of your life, the lucky shots, and the I-busted-my-ass-taking-that-photograph-so-you-very-damn-well-love-it moment. And that’s how we learn. I remember the first picture i ever took with my Nikon N60 film camera. It was a sunflower that one of my best friends gave to me on valentines day. the lighting was beautiful, the shadows were perfect. So, I pressed the shutter button and took the photograph. I was intrigued at my final product when i developed that film later that day. I actually made extra copies of the sunflower photograph and gave it to my best friend to thank him for such a beautiful flower and made it immortal to me. Ever since then photography took a whole new meaning to me.

Graphic Design is not a photography class there for you are not a photographer! You are bamboozling people that do not know a thing about photography! A hobby person may know more photography than you. Just because you own a professional camera does not make you a professional photographer automatically.  IF YOU WERE A PHOTOGRAPHER AS YOU CLAIM YOU’LL KNOW THAT THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAMERA IS NOT NECESSARILY THE BEST! You simply press the button and that’s it and Photoshop does the rest.  You do not know how many true photographers you frustrate with you smug comments. Me as a future professional photographers I dedicate to you:

I Just Might Keep Doing This!

Blogging

Once in my life I thought it would be easy to do. I have seen in movies how the protagonists would blog non stop and have their creativity flow out of their finger tips like magic powers that transform into words that feed the digital world of ones individuality. I made this blog for the class “Informatica 103” and said to myself this was an easy task to keep up. Well, It blew up on my face. I want to keep it up it might just be good for me. Maybe in the future this knowledge on how to keep one might just help my future career. Thank for everybody’s support!

Pirates are the 21st century Robin Hoods.

I’m going to be blunt here. There are a lot of grey areas concerning Piracy. People are always saying how that’s bad, and illegal, and how I am bound to got to jail. My counter argument is this: It is only Illegal if I sell it forward for something i didn’t pay for. “But Joe it is still stealing from the person who made it.”  – the annoying person says. Well, you caught me there… NOT! The economy is really bad nowadays. I am not going to spend $30 on a DVD , which film i didn’t see in the movies! and renting it has become a nightmare and Netflix just doesn’t have the films I am interested in, EX: they only have Terminator 2! not even the first film, And I am way past broke to buy the film.  I hate when people steal yes! But Walmart doesn’t really have much!  Not to mention that Disney gives movies a certain months and then takes it away, so it creates more demand.

Wait Joe! You’re forgetting music!  Yeah about music! The music industry complains about us people pirating their songs or albums, well news flash if we like we will buy you! I remember when I was a really big fan of Good Charlotte… till the last album stunk so bad i was ashamed of such an album. And that is money I’ll never get back. It is frustrating for the music industry, but they don’t really care about their market target… us music listeners.

Books! depends on which book. Classical books are all around but since they bring out new editions and nicer looking books (which I do not mind at all) they get overly priced. sometimes there are sacrifices to be made. In the end I’ll still buy the copy.

In the end of all things there are reasons! Companies stop being greedy!

besides!

One of the most awesome things ever invented! THE RADIO!

0

The Radio:

We could all thank for the fun we have in  the car, the fun we have cleaning the house, and for all the news in  the mornings (especially when there’s traffic) to this guy:

His name is Guglielmo Marconi! (April 25, 1874, Bologna-Died: July 20, 1937, Rome).  He sent and received his first radio signal in Italy in 1895. But, in later years Tesla became the patent of this invention because Marconi’s patent was overturned in the supreme court in 1943 in favor of Tesla.

And I thought you were different than Edison... tsk tsk tsk.

And I thought you were different than Edison… tsk tsk tsk.

In 1917, when the United States entered the first world war , all radio  was controlled by the U.S. Navy to prevent its possible use by enemy spies. The U.S. government took over control of all patents related to radio technology.

In 1919, after the government released its control of all patents, the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) was established with the purpose of distributing control of the radio patents that had been restricted during the war. This was the time when the military had control of all radio transmissions.

The first time the human voice was transmitted by radio is debatable  Claims to that distinction range from the phase, “Hello Rainey” spoken by Natan B. Stubblefield to a test partner near Murray, Kentucky, in 1892, to an experimental program of talk and music by Reginald A. Fessenden, in 1906, which was heard by radio-equipped ships within several hundred miles.

True Broadcasting Begins

In 1915, speech was first transmitted across the continent from New York City to San Francisco and across the Atlantic Ocean from Naval radio station NAA at Arlington, Virginia, to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

On November 2, 1920, Westinghouse’s KDKA-Pittsburgh broadcast the Harding-Cox election returns and began a daily schedule of radio programs.

The first ship-to-shore two way radio conversation occurred in 1922, between Deal Beach, New Jersey, and the S.S. America, 400 miles at sea. However, it was not until 1929 that high seas public radiotelephone service was inaugurated. At that time telephone contact could be made only with ships within 1,500 miles of shore. Today there is the ability to telephone nearly every large ship wherever it may be on the globe.

Commercial radiotelephony linking North America with Europe was opened in 1927, and with South America three years later. In 1935 the first telephone call was made around the world, using a combination of wire and radio circuits.

FM Radio

Edwin Howard Armstrong invented frequency-modulated or FM radio in 1933. FM improved the audio signal of radio by controlling the noise static caused by electrical equipment and the earth’s atmosphe. Until 1936, all American transatlantic telephone communication had to be routed through England. In that year, a direct radiotelephone circuit was opened to Paris. Telephone connection by radio and cable is now accessible with 187 foreign points.

Radio technology has grown significantly since its early development. In 1947, Bell Labs scientists invented the transistor. In 1954, a then small Japanese company called Sony introduced the transistor radio.

FM Antenna System

In 1965, the first Master FM Antenna system in the world designed to allow individual FM stations to broadcast simultaneously from one source was erected on the Empire State Building in NYC.

Now, the radio is even in the internet, which for me… AWESOME IDEA! but it tends to be not so fluid since it depends on WiFi connection. Nothing pisses anyone more when it lags right in the middle of their jam. but there are barely any fashionable portable radios that don’t have to be used with long antennas.

See what i meant with the antenna.

Today, there are downloadable apps that are radios:

Those are some of the best ones around, though some radio stations do have their own website so you can hear them live, and even their own apps so you could take them with you just in case you don’t want to miss their programming.

MIRA! MIRA! LOOK UP! of Maristella Colón Astacio

0

A recent exhibition opened up in the art gallery in my university. The tittle is Mira, Mira! look up! It’s totally incredible! I am aware that not many people are fond of abstract art, but Maristella’s techniques are very amazing and her painting reminds a lot of the phenomena that happens in the Arctic, the aurora lights.  The mixed media used on the canvas is truly relaxing to me and makes me look up and wonder if it will happen in tropical skies. I personally love the darker ones like this one:

It reminds me when the sun won’t give up on a rainy day.  I truly enjoyed her pieces of art they truly moved feelings in me. I can only describe the texture but it is so much better when you can see it in person. The richness is surely an experience.  though her style is repetitive, it is much better than staring at straight squares in white backgrounds. I give this exhibition 7/10 to go see. Why? Like I have previously mentioned, the art is repetitive and although mesmerizing at first it tends to drag a little.

A Vision of Students Today!

0

Every student has a downfall, They do not like to study. Then there are those that want to make something of themselves, so, we always look for the best universities we could get into. In some way we’re always questioning the classes we take every year. Why am I taking an algebra class if my bachelors degree is  in art?  Well, when you come to look at it, we are still paying for those classes that we hate to take. The debt is ours not the universities. Nonetheless, we have to get a part time job in already tight schedule, spend endless hours in a laboratory, buy text books that we will never read, buy a laptop because the library is full of Facebook users, survive on 65 cent ramen packets because we can’t afford real and nutritional food etc etc. Hell, We even to sacrifice our privacy during those years because sometimes professors are just assholes and lazy people that they don’t know the updated times going on around them. And to those that do GOD BLESS YOU! Why?  You make us, the students, feel like our dreams are actually worth something, like what we are studying is something that if we apply it to our future professional selves we could really be something. but those that are in the god bless category, students represent you in the end and you will always be remembered as that asshole professor that failed to teach me the class.

Technology, is a blessing to us! It cuts down a lot of problems we students have. E-mails, sites that could help us study, internet (of course), and its faster to write in a computer than to write by hand when you have to do those “40,000” page essays they send you to do about a dead person. It makes the learning process a more interesting, true, BUT, They abuse of it. How?  Easy! Teachers get lazier with it. The real dynamic is from the person teaching not their presentations, They are the ones with the real knowledge, not a “smart” bundle of plastic and metal pieces. And not to mention it is by far the most distracting things to have near. Especially an university student. Facebook is a big temptation to us all! just like for me is Tumblr. That’s why in my opinion the notebook shall remain mandatory, not to mention that GRAMMAR IS STILL IMPORTANT TO LEARN!

Classes should be more practical in the sense the professor should always ask the opinions and be more dynamic. Allowing a student to express their opinions may it being wrong or right it shall always be encouraged in class, and debates are always fun but with ultimate control to not create fights. Then there are the hybrid classes, 50% classroom presence and 50% online class. Let’s skip the bull crap, I am paying hundreds of dollars for a class to be taught by a living, breathing person. NOT A MACHINE. If i have a question because I did not understand the material written in the online module the machine will just answer “0100100101110101”. Is it really important to make technology  the greatest advancement? Yes! but there should be a point where it would be wonderful to just  kick it old school.

9/11 I Still Remember You (a reflection)

0

A few days ago i was meant to write this as a reflection, but I couldn’t write it that day. Seeing it on TV was one thing. experiencing it only a bridge away was another. When 9/11 happened i was living in New York. I just happened to have missed school, and felt very sick and went to lay down. Just as what i thought was the very first earthquake i felt, my downstairs neighbor in our walk up apartment ran up and down the stairs screaming “THE WORLD TRADE CENTER GOT HIT!!!!”. I rapidly sat up and ran to the window on the edge of Brooklyn, and my view of New Jersey, the Statue of Liberty was forgotten as my eyes went directly at the smoke at the center of Manhattan. The left tower (from my point of view) was hit. Only minutes later, i saw the right tower get hit.

I was only a kid back then. I was still getting used to the city. Now,its been 11 years and it’s still tough to suppress the heart ache it still brings. Sometimes people joke about it on Facebook posting silly images on how they went down, it annoys me to such an extent that i close the social network and focus on other things. A lot of good people and brave men died, most form Brooklyn, my borough. new york may be a huge jungle where many voices you can hear, but when somebody messes with us we stand united and though we are many voices our heart beat as one.

Hello Loonies!

0

Hi! My name is Joemi Perez. I’m currently a Photography major student with a minor in film and foreign languages. In my free time (or in any time I just feel like I can) I read books. I have a very big passion for photography and film and over all, books. these three have always been my passion.  I think that  photography has very big innovations, and why not talk about them?  in film I love to dissect the film and criticize it (in a good manner just as it could be in a bad manner) depends how the film impacts me, but remember, everything is going to be based on my opinion. And then there’s books, which i will also be ranting and praising about.

I hope all you loonies enjoy my blog!
